Design can not be placed in isolation as i see it everywhere. Design need to be collobrated with medium like technology, media, craft, social science or business. As salt is ingredient of all recipe but dont prefered to be eat alone design is not for isolation. same like salt , design is neccessity but has to be embedded in all field. design need to be imparted in education right from the start but not as a separate subject as then it will become just another subject. education methodology has to be designed such way that led student to seek truth till he satisfy and not to memorise as parrot. In india we are taught in school to believe everything that is written in book or spoke by teacher and never seek the explanation or reasoning the knowledge. Macauly developed this system to produce army of clerk who would be obedient to British Raj and allowed to do preciesly what was asked. Even after independence we never tried to evalute the relevance of this and just carried forward it.
so coming back to concern of design education, To create an atmosphere of design promotion is needed but before that we have to have some success stories to be told. Management have big salary package, MNC job to lure million of student, technology has whole Moon Mission like things, enough to call enthu people. what design has to offer , to be clear how many designer can claim that they were aware about such field in there school time ( excluding metros) . i still find dificult to explain people at my place that being a designer i do not stitch cloth. we should accept fact that
Industrial design has not been promoted well and lot people dont even know, there is institution like NID exist.
Design is still not given much importance as subject ( govt could have started many design institute if they would have convinced with its imp.)
Design is perceived as subject majorly for elite student and associated with luxuries life.
Becoming a designer is not a dream of a common indian student as he dont even know it.
design group are close isolated community , no matter how much they disscuss design, they are only people there
